Is there a Canadian Ivy League?
The short answer to this question is YES. There is a Canadian Ivy League. This term, however, is still a somewhat informal term used to describe a select group of top-ranked Canadian universities.
The term was first coined by the author David M. Thomas in his political work "Canada and the United States: Differences that Count” where he directly refers to a group of five (5) Canadian universities as the “Canadian Ivy League”. In this publication, he remarks that these five schools are not only among Canada's oldest universities, but they also have noted selectivity (consistently exhibiting the highest academic required marks for admission), and maintain some of the country's largest endowments.
